When strength and reliability matter, Apitong trailer decking wood delivers unmatched performance. Trusted by fleet operators, owner-operators, and trailer manufacturers across the country, this hardwood is specifically built to handle heavy equipment, constant loading and unloading, and harsh outdoor conditions. Known for its density, durability, and natural resistance to wear, Apitong remains the industry standard for serious trailer applications.
While Ipe is the benchmark hardwood for architectural decking, Apitong (Keruing) is the trusted choice for heavy-duty trailer decking, offering exceptional strength, density, and long-term performance under load.
If you’re looking for the best wood for trailer decking, Apitong stands above the rest. It resists crushing under heavy machinery, withstands repeated impact, and performs exceptionally well in extreme weather without requiring chemical treatment.

Why Choose Apitong Trailer Decking?
- Superior Strength & Density
Its density allows it to handle forklifts, steel tracks, pallets, and heavy cargo without excessive denting or splintering. - Natural Resistance
This hardwood naturally resists rot, decay, termites, and moisture. Unlike pressure-treated lumber, it does not rely on chemical preservatives for protection. - Built for Heavy Use
From flatbeds and lowboys to utility trailers and equipment haulers, Apitong trailer decking performs consistently under demanding conditions. - Long-Term Value
While cheaper woods may save money upfront, they often fail sooner. Apitong’s durability means fewer replacements, less downtime, and lower long-term costs.
Trailer Decking Boards Available
We stock trailer decking boards in multiple widths and thicknesses, including common 3″, 5″, and 7″ widths, along with 1.5″ thick square-edge and shiplap profiles. Custom lengths are available upon request to reduce waste and installation time.
Apitong is widely used not only for trailer floors, but also for truck beds, boardwalks, industrial flooring, pallets, marine applications, and heavy-duty frameworks. Its combination of strength, affordability, and sustainability makes it the preferred hardwood for demanding environments.

Apitong Trailer Decking Specifications
Apitong Keruing (also known as Angelim Pedra, Angelim da Terra, Angelim da Mata, Caramate, Mirarema, and Sapupira Amarela) is an exceptionally dense and durable hardwood commonly used for trailer decking.
Color
The heartwood ranges from light reddish-brown to dark brown, sometimes with a subtle purple tint. It is typically well defined from the gray or buff-colored sapwood.
Apitong has a moderately coarse texture with a straight or slightly interlocked grain. The natural luster is low. When freshly cut, the wood may have a noticeable resinous odor.
Hardness
Janka Hardness Rating: 1,390 lbs
Apitong (Keruing) is an extremely hard decking option. It is roughly 120% the hardness of Red Oak and about 109% as hard as Maple, making it exceptionally resistant to denting and wear under heavy loads.
Durability
The heartwood of Apitong is highly durable and naturally resistant to fungi and termites. This long-lasting performance is why Apitong is widely considered one of the most reliable hardwoods for truck and trailer decking applications.
Preservation
No preservative treatment is necessary.
Apitong’s natural density and resistance to decay eliminate the need for chemical preservation, making it a strong, low-maintenance choice for demanding environments.

Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Why is Apitong used for trailer decking?
Apitong is used for trailer decking because it is an extremely dense hardwood that offers outstanding strength, durability, and natural resistance to rot, decay, and insects. Its high load-bearing capacity allows it to handle heavy equipment, forklifts, steel tracks, and constant loading without excessive denting or wear, making it the industry standard for truck and trailer flooring.
Is Apitong better than Oak for trailers?
Yes, Apitong is generally better than Oak for trailer decking applications. With a Janka hardness rating of 1,390 lbs, it is harder and more impact-resistant than Red Oak, while also offering superior resistance to moisture, decay, and insects. Apitong performs better under repeated heavy loads and demanding transport conditions.
What thickness is best for trailer decking boards?
The most common and recommended thickness for trailer decking boards is 1-1/2 inches, as it provides the structural strength required for heavy-duty hauling and commercial transport. Thicker options, such as 1-3/4″ or 2″, may be used for specialized equipment trailers or extreme-load applications.
Do you sell Apitong decking in bulk?
Yes, we supply Apitong trailer decking in bulk quantities for fleets, trailer manufacturers, distributors, and large commercial projects. Multiple sizes, profiles, and lengths are available, with custom orders and nationwide shipping options upon request.
